What is the Best Thing to Do at Kennedy Space Center?

Are you considering a trip to the KSC? Kennedy Space Center is one of Florida’s biggest attractions, and the team at Real Florida Adventures visits the KSC on a regular basis, so we know why it’s so popular with tourists and locals alike. This is your chance to come face to face with the past, present, and future of space exploration, and it’s an absolute joy to experience!

Previously, we’ve written a blog detailing 5 Fun Facts About Kennedy Space Center, and we wrote a guide to the 15 Best Things to do in Cape Canaveral. Today, we’d like to refine all of this down to one tour — the one we believe is the best thing to do at Kennedy Space Center: our #1 Kennedy Space Center Tour!

We’d also like to come clean! While this is technically “one tour” it is really a comprehensive experience packed with various things to see and activities to take part in. But if you want an experience that goes even beyond this, you can opt for our Kennedy Space Center & Airboat Ride or our Kennedy Space Center Tour + Chat with Astronaut

In this blog, we’ll outline exactly why this tour is the best thing to do at Kennedy Space Center and we hope to inspire a few intrepid travellers out there looking to boldly go on their next big adventure in Florida.

The Signature KSC Bus Tour

The best books often start out by setting up what you can expect from the story, and most of the best tours do the same. This is why the Signature Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour is the first thing you’ll do on our #1 KSC Tour!

Get on the bus and tour the entire complex, seeing the various parts of this epic center all within a relatively short trip. This allows you to get an overview of the center, understanding how the entire complex works.

Highlights of the signature bus tour:

  • Vehicle Assembly Building (which is HUGE)
  • Launch Complex 39B
  • The Apollo/Saturn V Center, with its recreated moon landing and awesome full-size Saturn V rocket.

The Space Shuttle Atlantis Exhibit

Our #1 KSC Tour comes with full access to the Main Visitor’s Center. While the entire center is there for the taking, we recommend making an immediate beeline for the Space Shuttle Atlantis Exhibit.

Why?

Because this unique exhibit offers an emotional narrative as you follow Atlantic, one of the three surviving orbiter spacecraft, on its journey. You will learn about this exceptional spacecraft’s exceptional journey to space and back, and you will see the Atlantis itself pivoted on an axis, as though it were still floating through space.

Here, you will also experience numerous short films and shows that tell the story of Atlantis, but also the story of NASA’s 30-year Space Shuttle Program.

Take a Ride on the Shuttle Launch Experience

This part is especially great for kids, but it’s just as good for big kids… The Shuttle Launch Experience is also the ideal next stop after the more sedate and cerebral Space Shuttle Atlantis Exhibit.

Here, you will get the opportunity to experience [most of] what it feels like to be in a space shuttle as it is launched into the stratosphere and beyond!

This experience combines space engineering with showmanship and theme-park rides. The overall effect is absolutely thrilling! Step into the space shuttle for a briefing from an experienced NASA astronaut before buckling up for an eight-and-a-half-minute lift off and ascent into space.

The experience is so believable, many guests admit they were a little surprised when they stepped off afterwards to discover they weren’t in outer space!

Stroll Through the Heroes & Legends Center

The Heroes & Legends Center is a great way to end your Kennedy Space Center experience as it offers a reflective look back over the amazing people who have put their keen intellects, passion, and faith into what is arguably the most ambitious feat of human imagination and engineering.

Learn about the men and women involved with the beginnings of NASA’s space program. Looking at the people behind the program offers a perspective that will stay with you for years. Within the Heroes & Legends Center, you can walk through the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, taking stock of history’s most legendary astronauts.

That’s all we have time for today! We hope we’ve inspired a few readers to opt for our #1 Kennedy Space Center tour. If not, perhaps you’d like to browse our range of Florida tours from Orlando.
